Oil shales in Belarus

Oil shales in Belarus are clay, marl, calcareous and tuffaceous carbonate rocks containing 2—3 to 28 per cent of sapropelic organic matter.
In the Republic of Belarus, two deposits of oil shales found — Turovskoye and Lubanskoye.
The resource forecast for the Lubanskoye deposit is 1.2 bln tonnes, of Turovskoye is 2.7 bln tonnes. The depth of occurrence is 50 to 375 meters, the thickness of the layer is 0.6 to 2.7 meters.
The aim of the project is to organize in the Republic of Belarus a production of motor fuels, gas and raw materials for the chemical industry based on the technology of oil shale thermal processing.
The project provides for design and construction of pit mines and an ore-processing plant with the capacity of 5 mln tpy, a power plant with the capacity up to 500 MW and an power and processing plant for deep processing of oil shale.
The need in investments is about USD 2 bln.
Proposal for investor: participation in a joint stock company for construction and operation of a mining and chemical plant, providing funds in the form of a loan (credit) or otherwise.
