Belneftekhim announces PE and PP project in Belarus

Belneftekhim, the Belarus state-controlled petrochemical company, has announced plans to build new production capacity for polyethylene and polypropylene at its Polymir facility.
The company says the new capacities will be 150,000 tonnes per year for each polymer. The investment value of the project was not disclosed.
This project is one of 14 major projects planned for the Belarus petrochemical industry by the government and Belneftekhim during the 2011-2015 period.
According to Belneftekhim, building new PE and PP polymer capacity will allow Belarus to establish domestic production of PE and PP films, tubes, packing containers, and other products which are currently imported.
Established in 2000, Belneftekhim comprises over 60 organizations. It accounts for more than 30% of industrial production in Belarus and produces over 500 different petrochemical and chemical products. About 70% of its production is exported to more than 100 countries.

Other products of Belneftekhim

Carnallite KMgCl3 · 6H2O is a natural crystalline hydrate with the following chemical composition: Mg — 8.7 percent; K — 14.1 percent; Cl — 38.3 percent; H2O — 38.9 percent. The content of potassium chloride in it reaches 25 percent, magnesium chloride — 29 percent, water of crystallization — 31 percent. Besides, the ore may contain NaCl (up to 9 percent) and insoluble residue (2 to 3 percent). Products derived from carnallite are potassium chloride and magnesium chloride. Potassium chloride is a concentrated potassium fertilizer. From magnesium chloride the following can be produced: light magnesia used the medical industry; medium magnesia used in paper industry; heavy magnesia in production of refractories; magnesium metal for production of magnesium alloys; magnesia cements used in construction industry. The total estimated reserves of carnallite in the Republic of Belarus exceed 2 billion tonnes. The depth of occurrence is 853 meters, the thickness of the carnallite layer is 8.8 to 9.4 meters. Oil shales in Belarus

Oil shales in Belarus are clay, marl, calcareous and tuffaceous carbonate rocks containing 2—3 to 28 per cent of sapropelic organic matter.
In the Republic of Belarus, two deposits of oil shales found — Turovskoye and Lubanskoye.
The resource forecast for the Lubanskoye deposit is 1.2 bln tonnes, of Turovskoye is 2.7 bln tonnes. The depth of occurrence is 50 to 375 meters, the thickness of the layer is 0.6 to 2.7 meters.
The aim of the project is to organize in the Republic of Belarus a production of motor fuels, gas and raw materials for the chemical industry based on the technology of oil shale thermal processing.
The project provides for design and construction of pit mines and an ore-processing plant with the capacity of 5 mln tpy, a power plant with the capacity up to 500 MW and an power and processing plant for deep processing of oil shale.
The need in investments is about USD 2 bln.
Proposal for investor: participation in a joint stock company for construction and operation of a mining and chemical plant, providing funds in the form of a loan (credit) or otherwise.
